Capm vs. Apt an Empirical Analysis Sample Essay Example For Students

Capm versus Well-suited: an Empirical Analysis Sample Essay The Capital Asset Pricing Model ( CAPM ) . was first evolved by William Sharpe ( 1964 ) . also, therefore broadened and explained by John Lintner ( 1965 ) and Fischer Black ( 1972 ) . Four decennaries after the introduction of this hypothetical record. CAPM is as yet acknowledged as a proper strategy for estimating financial resources and holds an of import topographic point in both scholastic bookmans and account practicians. It is utilized to measure cost of capital for houses. estimating the open introduction of oversaw portfolios what's more to discover in addition to money related qualities. Since the cause of this hypothetical record there have been army investigates and experimental testing to quantify the quality and the cogency of the hypothetical record. A few vacillations of the hypothetical records have been created since so ( Wei 1988. Stein. Fama A ; Gallic 1993. Merton 1973 ) . The Arbitrage Pricing Theory of Capital Asset Pricing detailed by Stephen Ross ( 1976 ) and Richard Roll ( 1980 ) offers a testable alternative to the CAPM. Both of these in addition to valuing speculations have experienced exceptional observational and hypothetical assessment with various investigates back uping or rebuting both the hypothetical records. The purpose of this paper is to through exact perception investigate the two viing speculations in obvious radiation of the US Stock Market in nearly stable monetary occasions. The primary region will take a gander at the rationale and hypothetical features of the viing in addition to evaluating hypothetical records. The second development examinations and talks about the bing writing and experimental investigations on both the speculations. In the third region I clarify the data and the demonstrating strategies utilized to through exact perception break down the hypotheses. The fourth development clarifies the results got from the preliminaries. The last development incorporates the choice and examines the limits and conclusions of my exploration. Area I: CAPM and APT Capital ASSET PRICING MODEL ( CAPM )Sharpe’s ( 1964 ) CAPM is based upon the hypothetical record of portfolio pick by Harry Markowitz ( 1959 ) . Orchestrating to his hypothesis. financial specialists pick â€Å"mean-fluctuation efficient† portfolio. This in a general sense implies that they pick portfolios that limit the disparity of portfolio return. given anticipated return. what's more, amplify anticipated return. given disparity. In add-on to these premises. the CAPM makes a few other cardinal premises. They expect that ( 1 ) all financial specialists are chance unwilling and hoping to amplify riches in an individual period and can take portfolios altogether on the balance of mean and inconsistency. ( 2 ) income upgrades and managing costs do non be. ( 3 ) all speculators have homogenous positions sing the parametric amounts of the joint possibility dispersion of all security returns. also, ( 4 ) all speculators can acquire and grant at a hazard free pace of associa tion ( Black et al. 1972 ) . The CAPM is a harmony hypothetical record that clarifies why each extraordinary security has its ain unmistakable anticipated returns. It gives a technique to measure the danger related with each in addition to. One cardinal reason of the CAPM is that it expect that all the diversifiable danger can be and is dispensed with in a productive ‘market’ portfolio. A single security’s peculiar danger will be made up for by another stock. So the peril related with every security is its foundational danger with the market. This is estimated in the CAPM by its beta ( its affectability to the movements in the market ) . There is an added substance connection between the security’s beta and its normal returns. Officially the CAPM condition can be composed as follows ERi= Rf+?i ( ERm-Rf ) ( 1 ) Where.ERi = Expected profit for the capital plusRf = Risk Free Rate ( Usually of half year Treasury measure )?I = beta which is the affectability of the normal extra in addition to comes back to the normal additional market returns. Officially. the market beta of an or more I is the covariance of its arrival with the market return partitioned by the inconsistency of the market return. ?I = Cov ( Ri. Rm ) ?2 ( Rm ) ( 2 ) Rm = Expected return of the marketA zero beta in addition to in the CAPM has a normal return equivalent to the danger free rate. The betas can be evaluated using arranged measurable and econometric methods. The three most regularly utilized strategies are the â€Å"market model† ( This is the most well-known one. I will use this for my testing ) . Scholes-Williams. also, Dimson mini-computers. There are army preferences/benefits each piece great as certain imperfections in all the beta checking procedures. Dissecting that fall outside the field of this paper however the limitation region takes a gander at the occupations of the various methods actually quickly. So as to analyze the two hypothetical records. staying reliable with the examination methods will be adequate paying little heed to their deformities or biases. Exchange Pricing Theory The APT is the other hypothetical record for in addition to evaluating preeminent created by Ross ( 1976 ) . This is a truly proper hypothetical record as it concurs totally with what seems, by all accounts, to be the instinct behind the CAPM. It depends on an added substance return bring forthing method as a first principle. Other than it is progressively advanced that the CAPM in light of the fact that it takes into history increasingly deliberate variables that may be pertinent. It looks at other macroeconomic factors other than the market risk. doing this hypothetical record increasingly refined. It catches different components that may hold been disregarded by the CAPM. Officially the APT can be expressed as follows. rj=Erj+bj1F1+ bj2F2+†¦+bjnFn+?j ( 3 ) Where.E ( rj ) is the jth asset’s expected return.Fk is a deliberate factor ( accepted to hold normal nothing ) . bjk is the affectability of the jth in addition to factor k. other than called factor trouble. also, ?j is the unsafe asset’s quirky irregular shock with normal nothing. The APT territories that if in addition to returns follow a factor development so the accompanying connection exists between expected returns and the factor sensitivenesss: Tocopherol ( rj ) = rf+bj1RP1+bj2RP2+†¦+bjnRPn ( 4 ) Where.RPk is the peril premium of the factor.releasing factor is the riskless rateThat is. the normal return of an or more J is an added substance guide of the advantages sensitivities to the n factors. There are two cardinal contrasts between the APT and the CAPM †â€Å"Firstly. the APT permits more than simply one bring forthing factor ( CAPM permits only for the market factor ) and also. the APT exhibits that since any market balance must be reliable with no exchange overall gains. each balance will be described by an added substance connection between each asset’s expected returns and its return’s reaction amplitudes of weights on the basic factor† ( Roll and Ross 1980 ) . It is of import to see that the APT depends on three cardinal premises †( 1 ) Capital markets are totally competitory. ( 2 ) Investors ever incline toward more riches to less riches with conviction. ( 3 ) the stochastic technique bring forthing in addition to returns can be spoken to as a k-factor hypothetical record of the signifier determined above in condition 3 ( Reinganum 1981 ) . ( 4 ) people concede to both the factor coefficients ( beta ) and the normal returns. ( 5 ) condition 3 non just depicts the ex-bet single perceptual encounters of the profits methodology however close to that ex-post returns are portrayed by a similar condition ( Roll A ; Ross 1980 ) . There are other hypothetical contrasts between the two hypothetical records however a progressively intensive hypothetical investigation falls outside the scope of this paper and is a nation of examination that has been broadly examined each piece great. Area II: LITERATURE REVIEW There has been army surveies hypothetical and observational testing on both CAPM and the APT due to its high pertinence in the account business. This development is separated into two sub regions †( a ) Studies on CAPM. ( B ) Studies on APT. furthermore, ( degree Celsius ) Comparative surveies on CAPM Vs APT. The second and the third development meet with one another. Since APT was created because of the CAPM. tonss of preliminaries on APT articulation at it from a similar position. A. Surveies on CAPM In spite of the fact that. the Sharpe ( 1964 ) and Lintner ( 1965 ) adaptation of CAPM has been a significant hypothetical power. it has non been an experimental. Most preliminaries of the CAPM depend on three conclusions of the connections between the normal return and the market beta of the security †( I ) Betas and the normal returns are directly related and no other variable has informative forces. ( two ) beta premium is sure ( this other than infers that higher betas implies more significant yields ) and ( three ) resources uncorrelated with the market have indistinguishable expected comes back from the risk free rate ( Rf ) ( Fama A ; Gallic 2004 ) . Despite the fact that the CAPM is tested by numerous surveies. the impacts of some prior surveies still remain and the beta is as yet viewed as an of import variable in the estimating and assessing of benefits ( especially with regards to a proficient portfolio ) . It is of import to see here that all the surveies inspected u nderneath usages a portfolio assignment to demonstrate for chance bring connections back. Fama and Macbeth ( 1973 ) tests the connection between mean returns and danger for New York Stock Exchange ( NYSE ) normal stocks ( from 1935 †1968 ) . They utilize the â€Å"two-parameter† portfolio hypothetical record and hypothetical records of market balance got from that hypothetical record to demonstrate for three boss speculations of the CAPM. They test for the connection between the normal profit for a security and its risk in any proficient portfolio and happen a measurably significant positive straight relationship as inferred

Be that as it may, since the beginning, nurture pioneers have pushed the significance of advanced education for medical attendants. Be that as it may, as nursing deficiencies created, the requirement for an ever increasing number of medical caretakers got obvious. To help tackle the nursing deficiency issue, Mildred Montag built up the partner level of nursing program (ADN) in 1952. It was intended to be finished in two years and give a parity of general nursing training alongside clinical courses. The first program structured by Mildred Montag was for partner degree medical caretakers to work under the oversight of expert baccalaureate arranged attendants. Because of disarray, the alumni of the partner degree nursing program were permitted to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). This NCLEX test was a similar test given to baccalaureate degree medical caretakers (Creasia Friberg, 2011). Presently, partner degree medical attendants can be found in pretty much every setting from clinics to long haul care offices. Notwithstanding, despite the fact that partner medical attendants have the right stuff to give sufficient patient consideration, the propelled instruction of the baccalaureate degree nurture gives authority aptitudes, progressed basic reasoning ability and improved patient results (Lane Kohlenberg, 2010). In this manner, as of late the distinction in abilities between the partner degree nurture and the baccalaureate degree nurture has been analyzed, bringing about a push for additional medical caretakers to get a single men degree (BSN). Partner degree nursing programs show the specialized part of nursing care. A partner arranged medical attendant can work well at the bedside. She can screen the patient’s needs and record the results of medicines. A partner arranged medical caretaker can utilize basic deduction abilities to decide her best game-plan by and large. In any case, the continually changing field of medicinal services is requesting higher taught attendants. It is requesting medical attendants that are increasingly proficient and have a comprehension of hypothesis based practice. Nursing and clinical associations the country over are suggesting that all RNs advance their training. A propelled degree of instruction can improve quiet wellbeing and nature of care (Fact Sheet: Creating, 2013). This has been prove by various investigations on the relationship between's higher instructed attendants and patient results. Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania directed an investigation that discovered careful patients had 14% lower chances of biting the dust as an inpatient inside 30 days when being thought about by higher instructed medical attendants. Another investigation led at the University of Toronto discovered emergency clinics that expanded their pool of baccalaureate arranged attendants by simply 10% had an abatement in death of released patients (Fact Sheet: Creating, 2013). To completely comprehend the distinctions in abilities between an ADN and a BSN, it might be important to assess how each would act in a particular patient consideration circumstance. For instance, a multi year male is hospitalized with an open injury on his leg. The injury is sure for MRSA and the patient is diabetic. The partner degree nurture dresses the injury appropriately, and shows the patient how to deal with the injury. She deals with the patient’s diabetes and shows him how to oversee it at home. The patient is released home with guidelines and solutions. He is re-conceded seven days after the fact with high blood sugars and an intensifying leg wound. A similar patient is thought about by a medical caretaker with a BSN. During his stay the medical caretaker dresses his injury appropriately, and deals with his glucose levels. During her time with him, the attendant inquiries the patient about his family and his home. Through easygoing discussion she finds the patient lives alone, yet his girl lives close by. She additionally learns he can't perfect his home appropriately, yet he is determined about remaining there. With the patient’s authorization, the medical caretaker contacts the patient’s little girl to study the difficulties the patient faces in thinking about himself. Subsequent to chatting with the girl, the medical caretaker finds the patient has not had an eye test in 5 years and his vision is poor. He doesn't follow a diabetic eating routine and wants to eat out as opposed to cook at home. Furnished with this new data, the medical attendant talks with the patient. She thoughtfully calls attention to his vision issues and terrible eating routine decisions. The patient concedes he needs new glasses, however can't bear the cost of them. He confesses to experiencing difficulty seeing the numbers on his insulin syringe. He likewise states following a diabetic eating routine is excessively troublesome so he doesn’t trouble. The medical caretaker takes this data to the hospital’s case supervisory crew and together they return home human services that will assist him with his dressings. They likewise figure out how to discover help to clean his home and subsidizing to get him new glasses. The attendant at that point makes an arrangement for the patient for diabetic educating gave by the clinic. Preceding release the medical caretaker shows the little girl how to change the injury dressing and how to give insulin infusions. She urges the little girl to go withâ the patient to diabetic instruction classes. The BSN nurture accomplished something beyond release the patient. She utilized the metaparadigm of nursing model to regard the patient all in all. The metaparadigm comprises of individual, condition, wellbeing, nursing and how they all associate with one another. (Gunther, 2011). She perceived the patient was a distinct individual with singular wellbeing needs. She found his physical and natural difficulties and figured out how they were influencing his wellbeing. Using the data she got she found the patient the proper assistance for his circumstance. The partner degree nurture is unquestionably equipped for dealing with patients in practically any medicinal services setting. In any case, human services is changing quickly with expanded sharpness and short lengths of remain and nursing must change with it by delivering increasingly proficient, accomplished medical caretakers. Biology Research Paper Topics

Biology Research Paper TopicsBiology research paper topics can be daunting, especially if you are a new researcher, but you can simplify the research process if you start thinking about the different research questions that you have for each year. These will make it easier to determine the research theme and paper topic for your particular year.Start by looking at your Research Question. This is usually written in the author's resource box or on the cover page of your proposal. Once you have decided what research topic you want to pursue, you should go through and decide which questions you want to ask. You can use these questions as guidelines when writing the paper. The next step to choosing biology research paper topics is to think about how the answers to your research questions will be presented. You will want to keep in mind the style of presentation that you think will best suit the research that you want to do. For example, if you are doing a survey study you may need to inclu de a table or report. If you are conducting an experiment you may want to consider presenting it on video or have it conducted by another person. When you decide which biology research paper topics you want to tackle, you can start to consider how your research will be conducted. Each research project may require a different set of supplies and equipment. These may be very basic or very specialized, depending on the nature of the project. In some cases you may not need a lot of specific equipment, but in other cases you may need more specialized equipment such as cell culture and biological reagents. Most undergraduate students have the opportunity to purchase their own lab supplies, but most graduate students do not have the resources necessary to successfully complete their own research papers. As a result, it is usually best to purchase your supplies ahead of time so that you can set yourself up with the equipment you need for the duration of your studies.Although research paper to pics are generally chosen after the idea is developed, they must still be thought through. A lot of things come into play when choosing a topic, including research objectives, possible research problems, and topic focus. It can be easy to rush through the process if you don't take the time to think about it. Give yourself some time to brainstorm and then get started on writing the research paper.Although there are many science competitions each year, there are only a few Biology research paper topics that are highly competitive. You may have to submit a proposal for your work to be considered, and you will likely have to attend several rounds of judging to be given the chance to present your research. These are not easy things to overcome, but if you give yourself enough time and patience you will be successful in your science fair project.Make sure to let yourself know the categories that your science fair projects belong to so that you can organize them accordingly. Having a littl e organization can really help you when it comes to making sure that your paper has been properly organized and that it is formatted correctly for your audience.

A Critical Study of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar and Environmental Ethics - Free Essay Example

CHAPTER I Introduction 1.1 Background and Significance of the Problems The existence and development of human world as well as the historical process of man and woman is mainly created by the public who are working with endeavor. So, the principle of human history is the people who are working. Past history is the lessons for present and present is for future ones. Without studying history, one cannot understand the real situation of country and people. History actually cannot give us a program for the future, but it can give us a fuller understanding of ourselves, and our common community. According to the saying of Robert Penn Warren, it cannot be deniable that studying history of country or religion can make people understand the good and bad beneficiaries of history concerned and they are managed to construct their lives better for their future. The topic I have chosen for my Ph.D degree is focus on the historical research concerning with Konbaung empire. When studying the historical background of Konbaung dynasty in brief, there appears the problems and research questions as follow: How did the Buddhism relate with Konbaung period? Is Buddhism really flourished in Myanmar and especially in that epoch? How did Buddhism spread and flourish in that era? Why did Konbaung heirs conclude under British? In what way did it influence the people in Myanmar in the field of environmental ethics? 1.2 Objectives of the research It is undeniable that to study history of Burma is nothing but to study the history of the teachings of the Buddha. This tendency could be exercised on the life of the Burmese people in the past or in the present. This projected study emphasises on history of Burma and the role of the Buddhist monks in Myanmar. The aims and objectives of this thesis are as under: To give the material of the policy on the tactic of several dynasties in Burma to apply the Theravada Buddhism as the official religion in the country. To know the role of the propagation of the Theravada Buddhism. To analyze why and how the kings and the people paid their respects and supported to their religion. To emphasize the role of Buddhist monks in the history of Burma and their contribution to education and moral values of society. To scrutinize the social background in which Theravada Buddhism influenced and how Theravada Buddhism molds the life of Burmese people in their daily life in economy, agricultural, social, education, administration, economics, culture, architecture, literature, politic in that period. 1.3 Statement of the Problems Desired to know There is a problem in Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar and environmental ethics of Konbaung empire. Despite expressing the historical background of that period by most scholars, there rarely provide how Buddhism arrived in Myanmar and how is related with environmental ethics. This problem has negatively affected the people and country because it is not completed in the historical field. A possible cause of this problem is that they are difficult to collect the data with original language. Perhaps a study which investigates Konbaung reign by a historical method could help resolve the situation. 1.4 Scope of the Research Even though there are a lot of evidences and references for the fact concerning with Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar, it is here limited the field of Buddhism in Konbaung empire from 1752-1885 because of the time limit. Since time frame is limited, the primary data cannot be going to the field. The analyses are made according to the data collected from secondary data in this study. The key findings and suggestions are forecast viewing these data expressed from ancient to modern days. 1.5 Research Hypotheses The Konbaung dynasty contributed significantly for unification of Burma and advancement of its civilization. This study suggests that the domination of the Konbaung dynasty was appreciably facilitated by Buddhism, which cemented the relationship between the rulers and ruled at one level and among Burmese people at another level. The Konbaung family attempted to create Burmese society based upon the strict principles of the Theravada Buddhism. This study is also proposing that Buddhism developed high popularity during the Konbaung dynasty and extended active patronage to Buddhism and monastic system. 1.6 Definition of the Terms Used in the Research The terms of the key words and phrases refer to concepts at the core of one’s study and concepts that must be unmistakable in conducting research with proper care and if the procedures and outcomes are to be properly understood by your reading audience. To illustrate key words of this research are as follows: Theravada Buddhism- it is believed to be the genuine doctrine of the Lord Buddha who has established the foundation of Theravada in Aparihaniyadesana. Konbaung dynastry- it means the period from king Alongphaya to king Thipaw (1752-1885) Environmental ethics – the term is concerned with environment of Myanmar people in their daily life in social, education, administration, economics, culture, architecture, literature, politic at the time of Konbaung Period. 1.7 Review of Related Literature and Research Works By the time we study the history of Myanmar and Buddhism, we found that Chronicles of Burma were written for one or quite a lot of of the following reasons: to inaugurate the fact that Buddhism reached to Burma since the life time of the Buddha. to preserve that the Rulers were the direct descendants of Mahasamata, the great king; to record the father to son heritage of kingship among the Burmese kings; to compile local histories with undisguised effort to attach importance to each locality as it has been founded by either a princely or saintly person; to recollect what meritorious deeds were done by each king who styled himself as the upholder of the religion; to praise the achievement of effective emperors so that the future kings could follow their example. Therefore the chronicle is a traditional way of writings the past of Buddhist countries such as Sri Lanka and Burma and constitute a strong historical tradition. According to the Dipavamsa, King Ashoka, as his great missionary woks, sent Buddhist missions to nine places after third Buddhist council including Suvannabhum and Lankadipa among them. The Mahavamsa illustrates these facts in great detail and the Burmese chronicles also followed suit. Suvannabhumi was recognized as Thaton or Tikekala in Mon State in Burma. King Ramadhipati known as Dhammaceti of Pegu, now Bago in his Kalyani Sima inscription (A.C 1480). It was traced the beginning of Buddhism to Thaton by Venerable Sona and Uttara in 309 B.C. The story verify the arrival of Buddhism in Burma back to the 4th century B.C. We do have some archeology based studies of Buddhism in Burma before or after the Bagan and Early Bagan periods. 1.8 Conceptual Framework Even though the projected study aims to trace the history of the Konbaung period in Burma, the particular focus has been devoted to the religion especially the Theravada Buddhism. The ethics of the Theravada Buddhism deeply influenced the way Burmese people live. The proposed study attempts to trace the process of emergence of the Theravada Buddhism as a dominant mode of religion and a way of life in Burma especially in the Konbaung era. The proposed study is not a narrative of the antiquity and the attempt has been made to explore how the socio-economic and cultural process of Burma intertwined with Buddhism. In other words, this study is an ethno-historical study of religion of Burma. This approach is useful in understanding the factors that condition and mold the life patterns of a community. Venezuela historian, Bereta Perez proposes that history is a complicated domain that touches everyday life of the nation in a critical way and from India, Nicolas Dricks used the framework of ethohistory to construct the political history of South Indian dynasty. By using the similar framework the proposed study attempts to document the evolution of the Theravada Buddhism and its impact upon the Burmese civilization in the past and present. 1.9 Research Methodology The projected study is an attempt to document the history of Burma and Theravada Buddhism in Konbaung period. History is a study of the past events concerned with the development of a particular place. Every nation has its historical background, so Burma, one of the countries in the world had been standing with their own kings in their past for centuries. The original sources written mainly in Burmese language as well as English are applied and historical data have been gleaned as possible as reach to our knowledge. Apart from the original sources other methods such as comparative, historical, textual, inscriptions, archeological excavation, royal orders, reports and scientific have been utilized for the present work and rational thinking has been applied to clarify the facts. Apparently most of the historical sources on the Konbaung empire and Theravada Buddhism in Burma are available in Burmese language. Keeping this limitation into consideration, the proposed study attempts to use verities of historical sources available in Burmese language such court chronicles of the Konbaung empire, books written in Burmese language on Theravada Buddhism, inscriptions, and officials sources of Burmese government such as gazetteers have been used to explore and document the contribution of the Konbaung period for promotion of the Theravada Buddhism and its impact upon the socio-economic, cultural and civilizational process of Burma. 1.10 Advantages Expected to Obtain from the Research It is generally believed that Buddhism flourished in the Konbaung Period. This research is written to determine whether this view is correct using Primary and secondary sources in writing this dissertation. By studying this dissertation, it can be obtained the following advantages as follows; One can realize the situation of the teachings of the Buddha in Myanmar One can understand the way to apply the Theravada Buddhism as the official religion in the country. One can distinguish the role of the first Konbaung Empire and the last dynasty in the history of Burma in the propagation of the Theravada Buddhism. One analyze why and how the kings and the people paid their respects and supported to their religion. One can receive the knowledge on how Theravada Buddhism influenced the life of Myanmar people in their daily life in social, education, administration, economics, culture, architecture, literature, politic at the time of Konbaung Empire. 1.11 Brief chapterisation In my present work is divided in to five chapters as follows: Chapter –I Introduction Chapter-II Life of the Buddha and Brief introduction to Buddhism Chapter-III Historical background of Theravada Buddhism in Myanmar Chapter-IV Theravada Buddhism in Konbaung Period (1752-1885) Chapter-V Environmental ethics of Theravada Buddhism in Konbaung Period Chapter –VI Conclusion Bibliography The first one consists of systematic introduction of the topic, objectives, hypothesis, methodology, context of study, review of literature and mention of sources and conceptual framework of thesis. The Values Of Humanistic Psychology - 767 Words

Michaela, I agree with you that one of the values of Humanistic Psychology is its emphasis on human potential for growth. The perspective is hopeful one. It does not mean that humanistic psychologists overlook challenge and darkness in people’s lives (see Hoffman, 2009). I believe that our choice to value individual potential for growth and actualization provides openings for discovering the value(s) of challenges we face in life. Hoffman, E. (2009). Gender Discrimination And Its Impact On Society - 1231 Words

Inequality is a concept which expands over different locations, societies and time in history. It surrounds us in everyday life and has become normalised to the point that one does not pay a second thought. This concept is often not recognised if not for awareness or education on the subject. Yet, it is also important to think about the causes of such outcomes, for example the use of discrimination. This divides people simply based on their race, sex, age and even gender, often making it hard to grab certain opportunities. What Google Hummingbird Does to Your Current SEO Efforts

by Constant Content Nothing makes SEO professionals and webmasters cringe faster than the phrase â€Å"Google launches new algorithm changes.† These individuals spend the majority of their time creating content and designing websites that will attract the most attention by search engine algorithms, hopefully landing them higher on search engine results pages (SERPs). Landing at the top, or at the very least on the first results page, is the name of the game in SEO. If your website isn’t visible, it isn’t getting views and the value of any content contained within dwindles. So when Google announced late last week that it had released its biggest algorithm change in almost 12 years, dubbed Google Hummingbird, the SEO community held its breath yet again. SEOs and webmasters have faced numerous challenges in recent years as Google’s Panda and Penguin updates to search engine technology have gone live. Further updates and upgrades to these programs have left some websites out in the cold and forced a change in strategy from SEOs. The question now becomes, what impact will Google Hummingbird have on SEO strategies? Hummingbird Details As is typical of a change from Google, there are few in-depth details available regarding Hummingbird. However, that doesn’t mean no details are known at this time. It has been noted on several websites (JavaWorld and TechCrunch) that the changes with Hummingbird are less about SEO and more about how queries are processed by Google’s algorithms. In the past, when a user entered a search query on Google the algorithms would process each individual word in a query in order to find the best results possible for the term or phrase. Hummingbird will now allow the Google engine to consider all the words in a phrase or question as a complex grouping and provide the best results based upon the entire grouping of words. Hummingbird and SEO Despite the now ingrained reaction of all SEOs to any Google updates, webmasters can rest assured that Hummingbird isn’t expected to have a huge impact on SEO strategies. For starters, Google announced Hummingbird last week, but the new algorithm has actually been in place for at least a month. This means that if it was going to impact any webpage standings in SERPs, it would have been noticed by now. Google announced that the algorithm change effects around 90% of searches, but officials at the company were quick to emphasize that SEO tactics shouldn’t really need to change. That is, of course, assuming that most SEOs have adjusted to the Penguin and Panda updates of the past few years. As long as SEOs and webmasters continue to focus on unique, high-quality content on their pages along with reliable, relevant backlinks from dependable sources then there won’t be a negative impact from Hummingbird. In fact, it’s been pointed out that those using these tactics will likely experience a boost from Hummingbird as it will process results faster and more accurately, as well as better identifying the value that your content provides to more targeted search queries.

Learn About NASAs Pathfinder Mission to Mars

Learn About NASAs Pathfinder Mission to Mars Meet Mars Pathfinder The Mars Pathfinder was the second of NASAs low-cost planetary Discovery missions to be launched. It was an ambitious way to send a lander and a separate, remote-controlled rover to the surface of Mars and demonstrated a number of innovative, economical, and highly effective approaches to spacecraft and mission design of a planetary landing mission. One reason it was sent was to show the feasibility of low-cost landings at Mars and eventual robotic exploration.   Mars Pathfinder was launched on a Delta 7925 on December 4, 1996. The spacecraft entered the Martian atmosphere on July 4, 1997 and took atmospheric measurements as it descended. The entry vehicles heat shield slowed the craft to 400 meters per second in about 160 seconds. A 12.5-meter parachute was deployed at this time, slowing the craft to about 70 meters per second. The heat shield was released 20 seconds after parachute deployment, and the bridle, a 20-meter-long braided Kevlar tether, deployed below the spacecraft. The lander separated from the back shell and slid down to the bottom of the bridle over about 25 seconds. At an altitude of about 1.6 kilometers, the radar altimeter acquired the ground, and about 10 seconds before landing four air bags inflated in about 0.3 seconds forming a 5.2-meter-wide diameter protective ball around the lander. Four seconds later at an altitude of 98 meters the three solid rockets, mounted in the backshell, fired to slow the descent, and the bridle was cut 21.5 meters above the ground. That released the airbag-encased lander, which dropped to the ground. It bounced about 12 meters into the air, bouncing at least another 15 times and rolling before coming to rest approximately 2.5 minutes after impact and about a kilometer from the initial impact site. After landing, the airbags deflated and were retracted. Pathfinder opened its three metallic triangular solar panels (petals) 87 minutes after landing. The lander first transmitted the engineering and atmospheric science data collected during entry and landing. The imaging system obtained views of the rover and immediate surroundings and a panoramic view of the landing area. Eventually, the landers ramps were deployed and the rover rolled onto the surface.   The Sojourner Rover The Pathfinders rover Sojourner was named  in honor of Sojourner Truth, a 19th-century abolitionist and champion of womens rights. It operated for 84 days, 12 times longer than its designed lifetime of seven days. It investigated rocks and soil in the area around the lander.   The bulk of the landers task was to support the rover by imaging rover operations and relaying data from the rover to Earth. The lander was also equipped with a meteorology station. Over 2.5 meters of solar cells on the lander petals, in combination with rechargeable batteries, powered the lander and its onboard computer. Three low-gain antennas extended from three corners of the box and a camera extended up from the center on a 0.8-meter high pop-up mast. Images were taken and experiments performed by the lander and rover until 27 September 1997 when communications were lost for unknown reasons. The landing site in the Ares Vallis region of Mars is at 19.33 N, 33.55 W. The lander has been named the Sagan Memorial Station, and it operated nearly three times its design lifetime of 30 days. Pathfinders Landing Spot The Ares Vallis region of Mars is a large flood plain near Chryse Planitia. This region is one of the largest outflow channels on Mars, the result of a huge flood (possibly an amount of water equivalent to the volume of all five Great Lakes) over a short period of time flowing into the martian northern lowlands. The Mars Pathfinder mission cost approximately $265 million including launch and operations. Development and construction of the lander cost $150 million and the rover about $25 million.
